Healthy animals!

This week in science we want you to;

  • notice that animals, including humans, have offspring which grow into adults
  • find out about and describe the basic needs of animals, including humans, for survival (water, food and air)
  • describe the importance for humans of exercise, eating the right amounts of different types of food, and hygiene

Watch this clip: BBC Bitesize: Babies and their offspring.

Activities

  • Matching game - have a go at playing the matching game. Look at the pictures and consider: What do you notice about the babies and adults? Look at one pair at a time - what are the differences and similarities? Does anything surprise you? Why do some babies look different to their parents? (Some change environment as they grow, like tadpoles or ladybird babies.) What is it like for humans? How are we similar to our parents?
  • Timeline- Make a timeline using photographs or cut out pictures from magazines of babies, young children, adults and elderly people. Label the different stages in the human life cycle and write an explanation of what humans need to survive.
  • Question-aids resource –The question-aids are split into parents with babies, parents with toddlers and then those who are pregnant. Using the sheet think about what questions you could ask to find out more about pregnant women, babies or toddlers. Once you have your questions you could either ask an adult at home or do some research on the internet to find out the answers.
